Launch of the 8th World Hindi Conference website in New York

The logo and website for the 8th World Hindi Conference (WHC) were launched today in New York by the Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Anand Sharma, at a function organized at the Consulate General of India.

The Hon’ble Minister addressed a gathering of over 100 guests, including print & electronic media, representatives of Hindi organizations and prominent members of the Community. He informed the audience about the 8th World Hindi Conference that is scheduled to take place in New York from 13-15 July 2007 and highlighted the significance of holding the event in New York which is not only a global hub of international business, commerce, finance and media, but also headquarters of the United Nations and a true melting pot of diverse cultures, languages and ethnicities. Recognizing the significance of language in the development of any nation, the Hon’ble Minister stated that even though India is a multi-lingual country, Hindi acts as a unifying force and plays an important role in strengthening the Indian identity. Organization of the 8th World Hindi Conference by the Government of India is a major step in the Government’s efforts to promote Hindi.

Following his address, the Hon’ble Minister launched the website of the Conference and interacted with the media.

The 8th World Hindi Conference is being organized by the Government of India in cooperation with the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and other Hindi organizations based in the US. The inaugural ceremony of the Conference will take place at UN Headquarters, which will be followed by an academic session on 'Hindi in the UN' at the same venue. The three-day programme of the Conference includes academic sessions, cultural programmes and exhibitions that would be held at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Media Launch of the 8th World Hindi Conference

At a function held in New Delhi on 19th April, 2007 the Logo and Website of the 8th World Hindi Conference were launched by Shri Anand Sharma, Minister of State for External Affairs. The conference will be organized from 13-15 July, 2007 in New York , U.S.A. The theme of the conference is ‘Vishwa Manch Par Hindi’.

Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that it was a coincidence that the 8th World Hindi Conference was being organized in a year which was the year of 150th anniversary of our first freedom struggle, 60th anniversary of our Independence and 100th anniversary of Satyagrah launched by Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa. Hindi represents the basic spirit of these historical events. He observed that Hindi is fast gaining ground as an international language. He also underlined the role of the Hindi film industry in the spread of Hindi all over the world. He said that organizing the conference at New York , the seat of the UN Headquarters is of special significance and would attract the attention of the world towards Hindi. He appealed to all those who love Hindi to help in propagating the aims and objectives of the conference. Speaking on the occasion the Chairperson of the media sub-committee of the conference Dr. Prabha Thakur, MP called upon all to work towards the goal of establishing Hindi as an International language. She said that advantage should be taken of growing prestige of the Indian community all over the world, interest in Indian culture and language, particularly in Hindi.

On this occasion, Logo of the conference was unveiled and website of the conference was also launched. The conference website www.vishwahindi.com (also www.vishwahindi.org) contains information about academic sessions, procedure for registration as delegate, procedure for submitting papers for the conference and details of cultural programmes. It also contains information about previous World Hindi Conferences and rare photographs taken during these conferences. Dignitaries present on the occasion included Shri Ramdev Bhandari MP, Dr. Lakshmimall Singhvi, Prof. Namvar Singh, Smt. Chitra Mudgal, Dr. Parbhakar Khostriya, Shri Himanshu Joshi, Dr. Ashok Chakradhar, Shri Ramsharan Joshi, Dr. Vedpratap Vaidik, Shri Alok Mehta, Shri Om Thanvi, Dr. Sunita Jain, Dr. Majda Asad and a large number of writers, journalists and representative of leading organizations of Hindi.
